Falling victim to ongoing Middle East strife, the Maccabiah Games (Jewish Olympics), scheduled for July 16, may be postponed because thousands of athletes have canceled over fears for their safety. The only other time the games were postponed was in 1939, at the brink of World War II. Despite a shaky cease-fire and American efforts to secure the peace, the conflict continued, with the deaths of three Bedouin women from tank fire in the Gaza Strip.
