Two car bombings targeting British citizens in the space of a week occurred in Riyadh Nov. 17 and 23. No one has claimed responsibility but officials speculate that the attack is a response to the conflict in the Middle East. In October the State Department warned of possible attacks against U.S. citizens or interests in the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula and Turkey. In view of these incidents, which may be anti-Western rather than anti-British, the warning remains in effect.
