Rival demonstrations on consecutive days to mark the 20th anniversary of the takeover of the American Embassy revealed a country struggling with itself over how to view the U.S. A demonstration organized by moderates expressed interest in dealing with the U.S. with “rationality,” while the protest organized by hard-liners was filled with the more familiar anti-U.S. vitriol. Travel here for Americans has opened up in the last year, and despite the mixed signals, will probably improve with time.
