The Islamic body responsible for issuing religious edicts in Malaysia has warned Malaysian Muslims to avoid being pulled into the jihad against the U.S. called for by Afghanistan’s Taliban. The Taliban’s jihad is a political one, not religious, the National Fatwa Council stated, and as such should be pursued only by citizens of Afghanistan. This announcement could reduce the likelihood of violence against Americans in Malaysia.
