Ethnic violence is increasing in Nigeria, with three separate conflicts occurring since May between different groups. Itsekiri, Urhobo and Ijaw tribes in the Niger River delta clashed in a dispute over government favors and oil revenues; Ijaws and Ilajes clashed in a land dispute in Ondo state; Yorubas and Hausas, Nigeria’s two largest ethnic groups, clashed first in the southwestern city of Sagamu and later in the northern city of Kano. Follow local press reports about areas of unrest before setting out from Lagos.
