Taxi drivers out on strike for the second time in four months have shut down urban transportation and effectively paralyzed transport throughout the country. The capital city of Quito and the Andean cities of Ambato, Rio Bamba and Cuenca have been especially affected. The government has declared a state of emergency, and students clashed with police in Guayaquil. Follow local press reports for current updates.
