Greece
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |With recent bus hijackings by Albanian immigrants, travelers should be especially alert while traveling in Greece. On July 15 an Albanian immigrant held six passengers and a driver hostage in Palestra in protest of alleged police abuses. Another bus was hijacked by an Albanian immigrant on May 29. Tensions are on the rise as the number of illegal immigrants grows to near 10 percent of Greece’s 10.2 million population. An increase in crime has been blamed on immigrants, although police reports indicate that Greeks themselves are the main culprits.
