The kidnapping of a Wall Street Journal reporter in Karachi underscores the risks of travel in Pakistan, where tensions remain high and security is uncertain. The government supports U.S. actions in Afghanistan but a simmering anti-American sentiment exists among a sector of the population, and militant groups remain committed to the “liberation” of Kashmir in India. Travelers should do their best to avoid standing out as an American.
