Southeast Asia
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Thai officials have tightened security in areas they deem vulnerable, including embassies, consulates, ambassadors’ residences, airports and airline offices in response to intelligence that al Qaeda may be looking for a new base of operations in Southeast Asia. The move comes after receiving intelligence from the Thai embassy in Kuwait that al Qaeda may be targeting U.S. airline offices and those of its allies in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Thailand now joins Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia on heightened alert for terrorist threats, and plans are in the works for greater intelligence sharing among these nations.
