Bosnia-Herzegovina
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo closed to the public March 20 and shut down entirely March 22 after receiving word of possible terrorist threats. Al-Qaeda terrorists reportedly met in Sofia, Bulgaria, to set targets in Europe and discussed launching an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo. The embassy had closed in October after reports of threats but reopened several days later after police arrested six Algerians suspected of plotting attacks. Five of them were humanitarian aid workers; the sixth was suspected of being Osama bin Laden’s top agent in Europe. The current closure will last as long as is appropriate, according to an embassy official.
