Venezuela
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |A month after a coup removed Hugo Chavez from power only to see him reinstated two days later, the country is passionately divided between supporters and opponents of the president. May Day rallies brought out hundreds of thousands of demonstrators in Caracas, some 100,000 marching for Chavez, 200,000 against. The army appears to be split in its loyalties, and the opposition has little vision for the country except the ouster of Chavez. Further unrest could occur at any time.
