Adriatic Europe
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |NATO’s war in Yugoslavia has cast a pall on travel to countries in the Adriatic region, most notably Croatia, Greece, Italy and Slovenia. Tourism along Croatia’s coast, which had been rebounding this year, has been devastated; hundreds of thousands of reservations have been cancelled in northern Greece; luxury cruise ships which normally call on Venice are refusing to sail into the Adriatic with their 220,000 passengers; Slovenia has lost most of its summer bookings. There is little real danger from the war in these places and good deals are available, but everyone needs to make their own decisions about traveling on the edge of a war zone.
