USA
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The Makah Indian tribe in northwestern Washington state has resumed its whaling tradition with the blessing of the U.S. government and the opposition of some environmental groups. The hunt, which began in earnest May 15 and resulted in a successful kill May 17, has become a media event with protesters trying to interfere. Traffic into Neah Bay was blocked May 17 by both protesters and tribal police and tempers were flaring. Unless you want to become part of the excitement, stay away until the situation settles down.
