Croatia

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | February 25th, 2004 | Trackback

About a third of all crime in Croatia occurs in Zagreb, but the city is still considerably safer than most other major European cities. According to an annual police report, Zagreb experienced 2,420 criminal acts per 100,000 inhabitants in 2003. In comparison, Vienna, Austria had more than 13,000. Residents perceive crime to be a bigger problem than the statistics suggest, and police believe this is because of several high-profile unsolved crimes in the past few years. Croatia is becoming a popular tourist destination, especially for Europeans.
