Barbados
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The U.S. State Department apologized to the government of Barbados for erroneously reporting that violent crime was rising in the island nation and its police force was inept. The advisory was meant for another Caribbean nation but was posted in a report about Barbados on the State Department’s web site for four months before it was challenged and removed. The State Department’s Consular Information Sheet on Barbados still notes that incidents of violent crime occur and recommends vigilance on beaches at night, but does not list the crime rate as high or say anything detrimental about the police.
