By Larry Habegger | Permalink |A section of Air France Terminal 2E at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport collapsed May 23, killing four people and injuring three. The terminal is closed indefinitely and may be razed if investigations reveal structural flaws. The terminal had been open less than a year and cost $890 million to build. The shutdown reduced the airport’s capacity by 15 percent. Flights have been rerouted, but officials expect difficulties in June, the airport’s busiest month.

By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The 60th anniversary of D-Day will be celebrated June 5-7 in Normandy with 16 ceremonies attended by some 20,000 people. There is no evidence that such attacks are likely, but security will be tight.

By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The Cannes Film Festival, which runs through May 23, will not be affected by striking entertainment workers, according to festival managers. Small-scale protests are likely, but the strikers have no intention of closing down or significantly disrupting the festival.
