USA
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The tourist who travels with more than $10,000 in cash is rare indeed, but failing to declare this currency on arrival in the U.S. can now provoke a prison sentence. Before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, failure to declare currency in excess of $10,00o resulted in a fine. Now, efforts are under way to curtail cash smuggling that might support terrorist attacks, and such smugglers are terrorism suspects. The G7 countries of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and USA are cooperating to prevent this flow of currency, and hope soon to have standardized regulations for doing so.
