The U.S. State Department updated its public announcement for the Middle East and North Africa to warn that extremists may be planning attacks against “Westerners and oil workers in the Persian Gulf region, beyond Saudi Arabia.” The recent attacks in Saudi Arabia were preceded by extensive surveillance, and the State Department believes that these extremists are carrying out surveillance on Westerners at hotels and in rental cars.
