France
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Con men have been preying on English-speaking passengers arriving at Paris’s Gare du Nord railway station on the Eurostar train from London when they try to buy tickets at machines for the Paris Metro. Friendly hustlers offer to assist travelers in navigating the instructions, explaining that they will save money if they buy a “carnet” of tickets rather than a single ride, then take the money from them to feed into the machine. Only when the ticket is handed over and the friendly local has left do the tourists realize theyve purchased only a single ticket after providing significantly more for a batch of tickets. Eurostar now recommends buying Metro tickets at the Waterloo station to avoid such scams.

Warning to tourists using the metro in Paris. Me and my six year old child were robbed of every cent we had at auber train station in central Paris by a ticket attendant in a green uniform. When we put our tickets in the validator the doors would not open so he lifted my child and his little bag over the barrier. he would not let me pass through until i put my wallet in my rucksack. he pushed me through then and wedged me with my heavy suitcase and returned my rucksack minus my wallet. we were left in paris on saturday afternoon with no money to even buy my child a drink and no way of getting to the airport the following day. i stopped my credit cards and on my return to Dublin checked with the credit card company to see if any transactions had gone through. he tried to spend 2400.00 euro ,that didn;t go through then 990.00euro which was also declined. the shop was called Dyana Gerrard 1 ruede l’arcde triumphe. The police nor the metro or ratp staff were not helpful. please be wary and stop credit cards before going to police they will try and use your card immediately while you are still in shock as they know they only have a short time to spend your money.
