Indonesia
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Smoke from illegal fires throughout Indonesia is blanketing parts of Indonesian Borneo, causing health problems and interfering with air travel in Kalimantan. The density of the haze fluctuates from day to day but will likely intensify in September as the country moves into the dry season. The illegal burning continues because people raze the forest to clear land for agriculture, and local officials who are responsible for enforcing laws against burning fail to do so.
