Egypt
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |More than 200 Germans who stayed at the Siva Grand Beach Hotel in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada contracted hepatitis A recently, and German health officials are urging anyone who stayed there in June or July to get tested for the disease. Hepatitis A is usually transmitted through contaminated food and water and can be cured within days or weeks when detected early. A hotel spokeswoman said the exact cause of the contagion had not been determined, but that it could have come from almost anywhere, such as from street vendor food or tap water in town. In other news, Israelis have been warned that Islamic extremists are planning to attack resorts in the Sinai during the upcoming holiday season, but most seem to be ignoring the warning. The announcement reportedly comes from specific intelligence community information rather than being just a general advisory.
