Egypt
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Seven years had passed since the last terrorist attack on tourists in Egypt when, on Oct. 7, a series of bombs exploded in the resort of Taba on the Egypt-Israel border in the Sinai Desert, killing at least 34, most of the victims Israeli tourists. The attacks could have major repercussions, showing that Egypt is not immune to terrorist attacks despite its heavy security apparatus and ongoing martial law, and could also cripple the tourism industry on which Egypt’s economy depends. Travel to other areas of Egypt may be no less safe than it’s always been, but tensions could be high throughout the country.
