France
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |A bomb exploded before dawn Oct. 8 outside the Indonesian Embassy in Paris, lightly injuring 10 people and damaging buildings and cars. The bombing appeared to be against France rather than Indonesia, with the alleged bombers making demands on the French government. Security was tightened around diplomatic buildings and other sites. The incident was the first act of terrorism in Paris since 1996. In other news, the government may allow the installation of cell phone jammers in theaters, cinemas and concert halls to prevent performances from being disrupted by ringing phones and worse, people who talk on the phone during the show. The move is in response to a “long-standing request” by cinema owners.
