By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Air traffic control radar in northwestern Italy that monitors flights in the Milan area shut down three times in 24 hours Oct. 7-8, causing hundreds of flight cancellations and delays in Milan and other cities, including Bergamo, Genoa and Turin. Authorities said that at no time was safety compromised, but travelers were significantly inconvenienced. In other news, a 24-hour local public transport strike has been called nationwide for Oct. 22.
