Bandits in Lima are placing road spikes in manhole cover access holes on neighborhood streets to puncture tires and set up victims for robbery. Incidents were reported in the Monterrico and San Borja neighborhoods and other areas. If driving in the city, avoid manhole covers and be especially alert in residential streets after dark. If you do hit a spike and your tires begin to deflate, continue driving until you reach a safe area if at all possible.
