Australia
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |A Danish tourist ended up in intensive care when he ignored warnings not to swim in north Queensland waters without a stinger suit to protect him from jellyfish stings. Such stings can be lethal, as he nearly discovered. He was stung off a beach on Daydream Island in the Whitsundays group and had to be evacuated with a paramedic by helicopter to the mainland. Jellyfish season in north Queensland runs from Sept. to March, and advice about where and where not to swim should be heeded.
