Russia
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Legislators have given preliminary backing to a bill that would add more than 3,000 Interior Ministry workers to security at the country’s 184 airports. Their duties will be to guard airports, accompany suspect flights, withhold luggage and cargo, and demand information and documentation from airlines and airport administration. In other news, an American on his way to work in central Moscow recently was robbed by three men who posed as police or other security officers. The victim handed over his passport and wallet when asked for identification and then was driven aimlessly in a van for five minutes before returning to the same spot where he was told to leave. When reaching for his briefcase containing a computer, he was warned off by one man revealing a weapon.
