China and Taiwan

Between Jan. 29 and Feb. 20, 48 charter flights will carry Taiwanese working in China home for Chinese New Year holidays and back again, becoming the first direct flights between the two rivals since 1949. Hopes are high that the flights will help reduce tensions in the region and lead to regularly scheduled flights and create an opening for more normal relations.
