Taxi drivers in Prague are infamous for ripping off tourists, but now something might be done about it after the mayor became a victim himself. He dressed in disguise and in cooperation with journalists, took a taxi from Old Town Square to Prague Castle and was charged six times the regular fare. On his return he was charged double the correct fare when he asked to pay in euros. He has vowed to rein in the wayward cabbies by intensifying undercover checks and prosecuting those who violate the rules. The city also plans to post signs around town listing the correct taxi fares between major tourist sites. In other news, if you are driving and get into an accident as minor as a fender-bender, do not leave the scene or move the vehicles until police arrive. It is against the law, and traffic infractions can produce a levying of a fine on the spot.
