Several airline strikes in January will affect air travel if they are held as planned, but unions often call off strikes at the last minute. Baggage handlers in Rome are set to strike Jan. 18; Alitalia pilots will walk out for 24 hours Jan. 19, while flight attendants strike for the afternoon; air traffic controllers in Brindisi plan to strike Jan. 29 from noon to 4 p.m., and Jan. 30 air traffic controllers nationwide are set to stop work from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Plan accordingly.
