The first car bomb blast in the uprising in the Muslim south occurred Feb. 17 and raised further speculation that Jemaah Islamiah is involved in the terrorist campaign there against the Thai government. The bombing occurred in a nightclub district in Sungai Kolok, a border town popular with Malaysian tourists.
