The recent killing of an Australian tourist by a hippopotamus in a game park is a reminder to proceed with caution around animals in the wild. The woman was with 12 other tourists when she approached a watering hole in the evening hoping to see a hippo in a popular wildlife refuge. She was attacked, flipped and trampled. Hippos kill more people than any other animal in Africa each year because they attack anything that gets between them and water, where they feel safe. They come out of the water to graze at night, and can be very dangerous if approached.
