A dispute between taxi and bus companies has created problems for tourists arriving in Los Cabos at the tip of Baja California. For more than a month, taxis have blocked streets leading to hotels, forcing tourist buses coming in from the airport to unload their passengers, who then must either take a taxi or walk the rest of the way to their lodgings. The issue has been building for years, and stems from competition between the bus companies and taxi union for the business of shuttling tourists from the airport to hotels. Taxis are licensed by the state and the buses have federal licenses; the taxi drivers argue that buses cannot legally serve the hotel areas, while the bus companies say the taxis cannot serve the airport and seaports because they are federal areas. Government officials have stepped in to resolve the dispute.
