Qatar
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The first suicide car bombing in this Persian Gulf state killed two, including a British man, wounded 15 others and raised fears that terrorism had arrived in this generally friendly nation. A previously unknown group claimed responsibility for the attack and vowed to carry out more against churches and “crusader” facilities, and specifically threatened the U.S., Britain and Italy. The bombing occurred outside a theater popular with expatriates where a performance of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” was underway, killing the director. Qataris and foreigners rallied near the site in unity against terrorism. Western embassies have said that the threat from terrorism here is high.
