Japan
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The world’s largest fish market in the middle of Tokyo has seen too many meddling tourists and officials finally banned them from the daily tuna auction because they were disrupting the operation. Their frequent camera flashes were making it hard to see the numbers displayed and some tourists got so close to the action that they were injured by the large hooks used to handle the frozen tuna. Henceforth the auction area will be roped off to keep tourists away, but they will still be able to enter the market. Officials concede, however, that they would be unlikely to physically evict anyone who violated the ban so long as they observed quietly.
