Mexico
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The U.S. State Department reissued its warning about drug violence on the border, singling out Nuevo Laredo across from Laredo, Texas as the site of the worst violence. The vast majority of victims are Mexicans, but some 30 Americans have been kidnapped or murdered here since October, and shootouts between gangs have occurred in popular shopping areas, on streets leading to the international bridges and one even spilled onto the bridge itself. Mexican authorities criticized the U.S. warning as an overreaction.
