Bermuda police have added a new tourist crime unit to reduce crimes against tourists and to aid those who have been victimized. The new unit will operate until October and includes high visibility patrols at tourist venues and special events. The violent-crime rate is low but incidents do occur. Two American women were assaulted recently by a man wielding a machete when they were walking home from a bar in St. George’s at 11:15 p.m. He stole one purse and the women escaped unharmed.
