Greece: Aviation Upgrade
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration upgraded Greece’s flight- standard rating to the top level, a signal that security in Greece’s aviation industry has improved to the level of most Western and Asian carriers. In 2000 the FAA dropped Greece’s rating to Category 2, stating that the country was not following the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Authority. That action placed Olympic Airways under greater scrutiny on flights to the U.S. Despite Greece’s successful hosting of the Olympics last year, its aviation sector was not deemed secure until last week.
