Namibia: Robbery in National Park

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | July 6th, 2005 | Trackback

Crime in Swakopmund is high, but it had not extended to the nearby Namib Desert until recently when two Dutch tourists were held up at gunpoint at a remote lookout in the Namib-Naukluft Park. Three assailants took the tourists’ valuables and their car, leaving them stranded. Luckily, the victims were able to get a ride from a passing car. It was the first incident of this sort reported to police, who are not sure if waiting for tourists at remote places represents a new technique for criminals or is an isolated incident.
