Thaiand: Bird Flu Returns
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Bird flu has broken out again in Thailand despite major efforts to eradicate it. Infected fowl were found in three districts of Suphanburi province, 60 miles north of Bangkok, during inspections by the agriculture ministry. There have been no human infections since October, but 19 people have died in Vietnam since December and four in Cambodia. There is little risk to anyone who doesn’t handle poultry, but the World Health Organization is worried that the virus may become capable of spreading from human to human, in which case the world would see a pandemic.
