Australia: Crocodile Attack

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | August 23rd, 2005 | Trackback

A crocodile attack in Lakefield National Park on the Cape York Peninsula in far north Queensland has prompted authorities to urge tourists to appreciate the dangers of crocodiles before they visit the area. A local man was dragged from a canoe by a crocodile and has not been found, although authorities believe they found the croc and put it to death. Saltwater crocodiles can grow to more than 20 feet long and 2,000 pounds, and they populate the rivers, wetlands and billabongs across the breadth or northern Australia. Small craft such as canoes and kayaks are not safe in these waters.
