Israel, West Bank and Gaza: Protests Likely to Greet Withdrawal

Fifty-five thousand police and soldiers have been mobilized to prevent demonstrators from disrupting the process, and travel to the West Bank and Gaza should be avoided. Incidents could occur elsewhere as well if demonstrations get out of hand. The issue elicits deep passions from hard-line Jewish settlers and others who believe Israel should retain the Palestinian areas. Follow local press reports for current information.
