Tonga: Demonstrations in Nuku’alofa

Increasing pressure is being put on the king to implement political reforms by establishing an elected government and shifting his own role to a ceremonial one. Some 10,000 Tongans marched in Nuku’olafa Sept. 6 and organizers delivered a petition signed by 20,000 people, one-fifth of the nation’s population.
