China: Bird Flu Cases To Be Quarantined

A Chinese health official has stated that any suspected bird flu cases will be quarantined, and that China will close its borders if a single case of human-to-human transmission occurs. While it seems unlikely that such a large country would shut itself down completely in the face of a single outbreak, the prevailing wisdom is that the cost of fighting a pandemic would be far greater than the cost of containing any outbreaks. When traveling in China, follow the news to keep abreast of developments that might necessitate leaving the country sooner than planned.
