Vanuatu: Stay Off Mt. Yasur

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | 3 comments | October 25th, 2005 | Trackback

Authorities have advised people to stay off Mount Yasur on Tanna island because of increased seismic activity that suggests a major eruption could occur. Mount Yasur is one of the world’s most accessible volcanoes and popular with tourists. It is only 1,184 feet high and can be reached by vehicle to within a ten-minute hike of the summit, where, on good days, you can peek over the rim to the cauldron below.

I was there in July… I went up to the Volcano and it was perfectly safe. A guy that went with me left again yesterday to Tanna again. I will ask him when he gets back if it was dangerous.

My partner and I were there a few days ago ( 16th March 2008) and it was perfectly safe although it was extremely active and the volcano was very active and on a high level of 4 but yet it was extremely safe.
I would recommend this a must do for any life time experience. The only thing I wish I had done was to take it in more as I was petrified. It was the most amazing time of my life.
Please dont ever be scared of experiencing something like this. I can not express how much of an incite this was in my life.
