Jordan: Amman Terrorist Attacks
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The recent suicide bombings at three Western hotels in Amman are the result of repeated attempts to subvert Jordanian security by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi’s wing of al-Qaeda and suggest that the threat of terrorism continues in Amman. The Jordanian capital is considered one of the Middle East’s most secure cities where authorities had foiled numerous previous terror attempts. Al-Zarqawi has a grudge against Jordan, where he was born, because he was jailed there for many years and later sentenced to death in absentia for several crimes including the killing of an American diplomat in 2002. According to Jordanian officials, the recent bombings targeted Jordanians, not Westerners.
