Indonesia: Extra Police on Duty for Holidays
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Indonesia will put 17,000 extra security officers on standby in Jakarta hoping to prevent terrorist attacks during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Authorities believe that terrorists are planning actions for this period as they have in the past: on Christmas eve 2000 Jamaah Islamiyah bombed 11 churches, and since then have been responsible for the 2002 and 2005 Bali bombings and attacks on the JW Marriott hotel and Australian Embassy in Jakarta.
