New Zealand: Head-Butting Welcome

Confirming that it is a good idea to appreciate a local welcome, a Dutch tourist got his nose broken when a Maori cultural group performed a traditional welcome for him. The man gave a nervous grin during the performance but one of the warriors thought he was laughing at them so he head-butted him. The Maori man pleaded guilty to assault and his companions have been encouraged to be more tolerant of tourists who may not understand their customs.
