Italy: Still a Risk of Terrorist Attacks
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The head of Italy’s intelligence agency warned recently that Italy faces the risk of a terrorist attack similar to the Madrid and London bombings despite 2005 passing without a major incident. The difficulty in preventing such an attack stems from the terrorists’ tendencies to form loose groups and the relative ease with which they can carry out attacks. The official raised concerns about Italian youths being swayed by religious fanatics and anarchist thugs infiltrating domestic political groups during protests, but acknowledged that international terrorists pose the biggest threat.
