Romania: Bird Flu Caution

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | 1 comment | January 24th, 2006 | Trackback

Avian flu virus has appeared in Romania but no human cases have been detected. Some areas are under quarantine as officials cull poultry and disinfect vehicles and property, and the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest urged Americans to make their own preparations for emergencies, whether a health epidemic or a natural disaster such as an earthquake or severe winter weather. The Embassy message said that during such emergencies neither the Embassy nor the Romanian government would be able to provide food, water or medicine and urged U.S. citizens to visit Red Cross or Centers for Disease Control web sites for information about how to cope, especially if a public health crisis caused the government to restrict travel.
